I purchased this for my 85 year old grandparents. Their new refrigerator has a botton freezer (which they wanted) but limited freezer space so they took out the ice maker to make room. Every time we had family gatherings, there was no ice not even a tray. When I mentioned buying this to my grandmother - she didn't want to hear it. She said there would be no room for it on her counters (she has plenty of room). I think they were more concerned they wouldn't know how to operate it without help or how it would 'look' if company came lol. It blends in nicely with her other black & stainless appliances. If anything, her friends/company raves about the maker. I had the ice maker shipped to my grandparents house — and when they received it, they couldn't get over how well packaged it was — it also has a blue film covering protecting the entire stainless machine. ❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊 and couldn't get over how compact the ice maker is, how quick it produces ice, and how easy it is to operate. They have actually used this several times when having outdoor gatherings. We plug it into the outside outlet or portable generator & wah lah! It was in the mid 90s with 100% humidity & the lid kept the ice intact - no issues with melting. The ice cubes are large nuggets which is nice.. Depending on your tap water minerals, I recommend using filtered water to reduce build-up. *The machine is very easy to clean AND SO IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ). When I visited, I noticed the machine had a 'water smell' and knew it just needed a cleaning. I do recommend cleaning & sanitizing the machine every 4-6 weeks and clean the basket frequently. **YOU'LL NEED TO TURN THE ICE MAKER UPSIDE DOWN FOR BETTER CLEANING AND DRAINING. I ALSO USE THE SPRAYER WITH HOT HOT WATER RINSING UPSIDE DOWN ** If you don't want to spend the money on ice machine cleaner - then white vinegar works just as good if not better. I put distilled vinegar in a spray bottle (1:1 ratio) and spray the inside really good. I would use a lint free microfiber cloth or an old t-shirt to wipe (DON'T USE HARSH CHEMICALS) - you can also mix water & Dawn together and use it as a spray. You'll want to grab a toothbrush for hard to reach spots. Vinegar is a safe - natural disinfectant & descaler. Anything that gets left uncleaned has the chance to build up grime for another 2 months. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP - YOU WILL GET SICK!! 🪥🧽🧼 *MAKE SURE you pour/fill the ice maker with the vinegar solution (vinegar/water), just like how you make ice! Making this ice fills the spaces most likely to have buildup, like the ice maker's teeth, with your solution. Make sure you give the machine a good thorough rinse because you don't want your ice to taste like vinegar. This may seem like a pain or a lot to do but it's actually not. So quick but so IMPORTANT. You DON'T want to take chances on getting sick or someone else because ALL ice makers create mold, slime, e-coli, pests, dust, and dirt—debris of all kinds can affect the quality of your ice. Look out for green or black patches on your ice, because that’s a sure sign that it’s in need of a clean. But other dangers can be harder to spot. I hope you found my review helpful! I know it's a little long but I rather share helpful information & not have someone get sick. GREAT QUALITY • AFFORDABLE • GIFTABLE • EASY TO USE • MAKES NUGGET ICE IN MINUTES • GREAT FOR PARTIES • INDOOR/OUTDOOR EVENTS • PORTABLE • CAMPING & MORE
I almost returned this when my wife pointed out it doesn't make Sonic style ice but so far I'm really glad I kept it! My household uses a lot of ice. Our fridge ice maker is defective so I got this as an alternative. I got the red one because the copper one that some reviews mentioned as a better model took longer to deliver. I have been using the large ice setting, I haven't tried the small size yet. I love the simplistic looking design, you can see exactly how it makes the ice. So I've had this for a month now, plugged in and going. I'm not sure if I'm really supposed to run it overnight but I've left it going. I keep scooping and it keeps filling up the ice. If I don't get to the ice in time it melts back into the tank, no big deal because new ice is made quickly. I've refilled the water about 7 or 8 times since I got it; I fill it like every 3-4 days. It's been great in the morning to fill water bottles for my kids before school. Even if a cube got stuck overnight and it's down near the bottom, I just scoop it out and let it make a few batches of new ice every few minutes. Based on other reviews I was worried about the need to clean it frequently but there's no visible sign of mold yet. I think the combination of frequent use and having a big BlueAir purifier in the kitchen as well helps tremendously. I've noticed my air purifier seems to keep a lot of mold out of the air and prevents it from growing on food and surfaces like inside this ice maker. The fan makes noise, nothing obnoxious or distracting but if you're standing next to it while someone's talking to you from another room, you might not hear them clearly. It doesn't bother me. I think it's fairly energy efficient. Aside from a 2 second 8A peak at startup my Kill-A-Watt says it uses about 95W while it's freezing which is about 5-8 minutes per ice batch. The rest of the time plugged in I wasn't measuring anything other than 6W when it's dumping the ice into the tray. So far the only annoyance is when it dumps ice into the tray and one piece blocks the IR sensor so it thinks the ice is full. It happens occasionally if there's partially melted ice on the bottom. 5 stars for now; I love never running out of ice!
I ordered this to replace the 2nd countertop ice maker that died after 7 or 8 months. I got a respected American brand this time though it is may be made elsewhere. It costed about $20 more than the cheapies but there was a special on this attractive silver version. It was larger and heavier than expected, but it still fits the counter space. This is so quiet I can hardly tell it is running beside the predecessors. Also it has better controls and spells out what they are for. I like being able to choose smaller or larger ice, though I have kept it small from preference and maybe as a way to avoid stuck ice problems. There is better cleaning instructions and a much clearer Manuel. I also am coming to love the larger water tank which holds a smaller Brita Pitcher of water. This is much longer lasting. I only put filtered drinking water in it. I have not really had this long enough to compare ir and make sure it lasts more than 7 or 8:months. This is super easy to operate. My first impression is that of a happy camper. It does what I need. I need ice when my refrigerator’s no longer works and it is not worth fixing and fiddling with leaking water lines to the refrigerator. I do fill about half a bag of ice in the freezer and break it up so it does not stay clumped together. I regularly do the same with the ice scoop for that in the machine. The only possible critisism so far is that the door did not stay open at first, though that seems to improve with use. I figured out the door. It is the swamp cooler breeze. When it is not running the door stays up when wanted.
